ANTHRAX Drummer Pays Tribute To Late 'Jaws' Actor

February 11, 2008

ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante — who was featured in the documentary about the movie "Jaws", entitled "The Shark Is Still Working" — has posted a tribute to the actor Roy Scheider, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his role as a police chief in "Jaws".

Scheider died Sunday at the age of 75 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock. The hospital did not release a cause of death.

Writes Benante: "Roy Scheider 'Chief Brody' died today (February 10th)...

"DAMN DAMN DAMN!!! Sorry, I just had to get that out!

"The way Roy Scheider acted out his role as Chief Martin Brody was and still is the finest bit of acting we will ever see. Who could've brought him to life but Roy? I've been a fan since I was a kid, I felt like 'Brody' was a relative that I had, but never saw in person. That's how believable he was.

"Who could've delivered lines like 'let Polly do the printing,' 'that's some bad hat, Harry,' 'we're gonna need a bigger boat?' NOBODY! It was Roy that made them so memorable. With every role he took, he was that character. They don't make actors like that anymore.

"God bless you.

"You will always be remembered as one of the GREAT ones."

A one-minute video clip of Benante talking about his love for the movie "Jaws" and how many times he went to see it as a kid can be viewed below (taken from the "The Shark Is Still Working" documentary).
